Once, back in the olden days, I had a customer call me up shortly after purchasing an LEF-300 printer. The customer told me he was replacing an older printer with the new UV machine and that he had an entire of library of image files that included white. The problem was that the Spot Color name of the white they had was “SpotWhite” as opposed to “RDG_WHITE,” which VersaWorks requires in order to recognize white. The customer was concerned that he would need to go into what he believed to be thousands of files and rename their spot white to accommodate VersaWorks.
Fortunately, there is a simple solution in Spot Color Settings that can remap any spot color to a special color that’s recognizable to VersaWorks.
Steps:
-
- In VersaWorks, open Edit>>Spot Color Settings.
- In the Library List, click the “Create Spot Color Library” button at the top as indicated below.
- In the dialog box, type the name of your new library. As shown, I chose “Special Colors.” Then, make sure the “Alias if Special Inks” choice is checked off (this is very important).
-
- Once your library is created, you can begin to populate it with colors. In the example above, we created a spot color called “SpotWhite” and mapped it to RDG_WHITE
- Try this out with all your special colors and see what a time saver it can be.
- This quick tip is perfect for renaming your spot colors and for smooth production with your VersaUV, TrueVIS printers, BN-20 printer cutters and other Roland DG technology that uses VersaWorks RIP Software.
