VersaUV LEF-20 Benchtop UV Flatbed Printer
Some call it magic. We call it superior UV technology. The LEF-20 prints CMYK, White, and Clear effects directly to virtually any material or three-dimensional object up to 100mm thick, ranging from pens and smart phone covers to signs, personalised awards, giftware, promotional items, laptop covers, and much more. With a 508mm x 330mm print area for larger objects you can print a single item or a short production run without costly and time-consuming setup.
The LEF-20 comes with advanced ECO-UV inks in CMYK, white and clear formulations. Designed for flexibility, ECO-UV inks image beautifully and conform around the most complex corners and curves. Clear ink can be layered into gloss or matte finishes for unique embossing and varnishing effects. White ink can be printed as a spot colour or as a flood behind CMYK to make colours pop on dark backgrounds or clear materials such as acrylic.

Safe and Energy Efficient
Every VersaUV LEF Benchtop UV Flatbed Printer features Roland's advanced UV LED curing system, which offers many advantages over conventional UV lamps.
Longer life – the LED lamp on the VersaUV series lasts up to 10,000 hours, ten times longer than conventional UV lamps.
Low heat and highly energy-efficient – while conventional UV lamps can reach temperatures as high as 800°C, LED lamps are extremely energy-efficient and generate very little heat. This virtually eliminates all risks associated with high heat, such as damage to the substrates and head crashes caused by media deformation.
Instant On/Off – LED lamps can be turned on and off instantly and are ready to use immediately after the printer is turned on. Conventional curing systems may take several minutes to reach the nominal output level and require shutter systems to protect the substrate and the head’s capping system from exposure to heat and UV radiation.
Allows choice of finishes in matte or gloss.
Advanced ECO-UV Inks
LEF printers come configured with CMYK, white and clear ECO-UV inks. ECO-UV ink was specially formulated for the VersaUV family of printers and printer/cutters to deliver high colour density and wide gamut for applications ranging from promotional and industrial products, giftware and awards to signage, packaging, POP and small displays. Clear ECO-UV ink produces matte or gloss finishes and improves scratch and chemical resistance for extended durability – up to two years outdoors. Layers of clear ink can also be applied to create 3D textures and embossed effects.
* Room ventilation and a Roland approved air filtration system are required. Please consult the MSDS for more guidance on the proper use and ventilation of ECO-UV inks.
Prints Directly on Popular Media and 3D Objects
The VersaUV LEF-20 has a maximum print area of 508 x 330 x 100mm (20” x 13” x 3.94”) and the LEF-12 prints on objects up to 305 x 280 x 100mm (12” x 11” x 3.94”) in size.
The ingenious combination of advanced ECO-UV inks with the LEF’s low heat state-of-the-art UV LED lamps enables printing on a wide range of treated and untreated substrates, including PVC, PET, ABS, wood, boards, acrylic and much more. You can even print directly on metallic electronic devices or heat sensitive plastics without the risk of damage.
Easy, Precise Printing on Cylindrical Objects
The RotaPrint is a custom designed attachment for the Roland VersaUV LEF range of printers. It is specifically designed to fit effortlessly via a series of magents that attach to the chassis of the printer. The RotaPrint does not have any motors or electrical connections but is powered by the LEF motion itself, ensuring flawless print quality every time. The RotaPrint prints onto glass, plastic, metal or ceramic objects up to 77mm wide and as narrow as 40mm wide allowing you to print to a diverse range of spherical products. Enquire about RotaPrint and view the brochure.
Patent-Pending Automated Ink Circulation System
Roland’s innovative patent-pending system circulates the white ink to prevent pigments from settling in the lines. In addition, the system controls the discharge of white ink by monitoring its usage.
By preventing unnecessary discharges and miniming the amount of ink that is subject to settling, this automated system significantly reduces ink waste and virtually eliminates all manual white ink maintenance procedures. Note that the white ink cartridge still needs to be shaken prior to use each day, as the ink in the cartridge is not circulated by this system.
Roland Intelligent Pass Control™
Roland Intelligent Pass Control technology, developed by Roland software engineers, represents the pinnacle of inkjet printing. This patent-pending system precisely controls dot placement between passes and delivers unprecedented imaging performance in all resolutions. Roland Intelligent Pass Control enables the VersaUV LEF to produce exceptionally smooth gradations and solid colours with virtually no banding in all print modes.
LED Alignment System
Another Roland innovation is the built-in LED alignment system for the VersaUV LEF. With the LED alignment system, you can quickly and easily set the printer up for different materials. To ensure proper image placement, there are two methods for setting the LED’s point of origin, including:
Two-point reference – This method uses the lower right and upper left corner of the object as reference points to generate a bounding box that can be read by Roland’s VersaWorks.
Center origin – Typically used for circular, curved or odd shaped items, this method uses the center point of the object as a reference point and requires the user to enter the dimensions of the printable area.
To ensure outstanding print quality around the curvatures of objects, mist filters are incorporated in the LEF, catching most residual ink that may mist when printing off the edge or curvature of a product. This cuts down on overspray and keeps the ink from settling on the printer’s internal components. Filters are designed to be easily replaceable by the end user.
Fully Enclosed System
The VersaUV LEF is the only benchtop UV printer that is fully enclosed. Having a fully enclosed system cuts the risk of UV light exposure to the skin and eyes, reduces dust and debris, and minimes ink odour.
Optional Air Filtration Unit
Custom built for the LEF series, an optional air filtration system is available from Roland. While ensuring proper ventilation, this unit also doubles as a stand and storage unit for jigs, fixtures and supplies. When connected to the stand, the Roland air filtration system virtually eliminates odor. The VersaUV LEF is ventilation-ready, featuring a built-in connector for the Roland unit or other standard air filtration systems.
Safe, Environmentally Sound Operation
The energy-efficient VersaUV series uses only a fraction of the power used by a conventional UV printer and automatically enters a low-power mode when it is not used for an extended period of time. This energy-efficient design literally saves thousands of dollars in electric bills each year and reduces considerably the emission of greenhouse gases. And because LED lamps do not require any warm up time, they save both time and energy.
Traditional UV curing equipment can expose operators to harmful ozone and UV-B and UV-C radiation. Ozone is a known air pollutant that can cause lung damage and respiratory problems. UV-B and UV-C radiation can cause eye damage, skin cancer and accelerated skin aging. The LED lamps on the VersaUV LEF are completely ozone-free and only emit the much safer UV-A radiation.
VersaWorks RIP Software
Developed exclusively for Roland inkjet printers, and printer/cutters, VersaWorks RIP software takes full advantage of the LEF-20's capabilities. Based on the latest Adobe CPSI 3019 engine, VersaWorks includes advanced error diffusion and 16-bit rendering for exceptional production output and unmatched ease-of-use, and is fully compatible with Windows® 7, Vista and XP. Along with features such as variable data printing, embedded ICC support, ink level adjustment tools and advanced cropping, tiling and nesting options; the newest VersaWorks features include the following:
Predictive Ink Calculator and Alert: For flawless unattended printing, a predictive ink calculator estimates the amount of ink needed for each job. When there is not sufficient ink to complete a job, the RIP notifies the operator prior to printing.
Spot Color Replacement Tool: Allows an operator to specify Roland colors directly in VersaWorks without the need to spend a great deal of time re-opening the source file to make changes.
Built-in PANTONE Spot Color Library: This new library helps streamline the conversion process from PANTONE® to CMYK colors and ensures accurate PANTONE® colour matching
