It all starts with the ink
Previously, colours printed on sublimated fabrics could look distorted with dull blacks, missing grays and fuzzy details. Roland's new Texart dye-sublimation ink, Roland's 3rd generation SBL3 ink, solves these issues, displaying bold, vibrant colour, deep, rich blacks, subtle gradations and remarkably fine details.
The RT-640 can be configured as a four-colour or eight-colour device. In four-colour (CMYK) mode, Texart ink produces bright colours with velvety blacks, improved gray scale and high quality, detailed output. In eight-colour (CMYKLcLmOrVi) mode, the addition of Orange and Violet ink produces an increased colour gamut with exceptional reds and oranges and deep blues and purples while Light Cyan and Light Magenta provide subtle gradations and beautiful skin tones.
Optimised for Performance and Value
An advanced, eight-channel print head contains 180 nozzles per channel capable of producing seven different droplet sizes for smoother gradations and denser colour. Texart ink is approximately 15% less expensive per liter than conventional inks, yet provides outstanding colour reproduction. Lower running costs are also achieved due to the ink waveform and maintenance sequence control technology engineered for Texart ink and the RT-640.
Precision Media Tracking
The RT-640 includes a newly designed media feed adjuster at the front and back of the printer that provides even tensioning and prevents skewing when running transfer paper media at high speeds. Enhanced vacuum power supplied by a powerful fan keeps paper flat for printing. The result is tack sharp details and a precisely wound roll at the take-up reel.
Integrated Bulk Ink System
The Roland Ink System uses airtight sealed pouches of one liter each. When in four-colour mode, the system provides two liters per colour. The proprietary Roland Ink Switching System* automatically switches to the backup ink pouch when the primary pouch runs out. Further expediting production, you can replace an empty pouch without stopping the printer.

Roland OnSupport® Online Production Assistance
Roland OnSupport is an online support portal that provides real-time feedback on the user’s machine. This system monitors ink levels and provides access to manuals and software updates, how-to guides, preventive maintenance guides, machine usage metrics and periodic updates to firmware. It sends notifications to the user’s cell phone or email address and allows the user to both manage productivity and gain direct feedback from Roland.
VersaWorks® RIP Software
Developed exclusively for Roland inkjet printers, and printer/cutters, VersaWorks® RIP software takes full advantage of the RT-640's capabilities. Based on the latest Adobe CPSI 3019 engine, VersaWorks includes advanced error diffusion and 16-bit rendering for exceptional production output and unmatched ease-of-use, and is fully compatible with Windows® 7, Vista and XP. Along with features such as variable data printing, embedded ICC support, ink level adjustment tools and advanced cropping, tiling and nesting options; the newest VersaWorks features include the following:
Predictive Ink Calculator and Alert: For flawless unattended printing, a predictive ink calculator estimates the amount of ink needed for each job. When there is not sufficient ink to complete a job, the RIP notifies the operator prior to printing.
Spot Color Replacement Tool: Allows an operator to specify Roland colors directly in VersaWorks without the need to spend a great deal of time re-opening the source file to make changes.
Built-in PANTONE® Spot Color Library: This new library helps streamline the conversion process from PANTONE® to CMYK colors and ensures accurate PANTONE® colour matching
Roland Printer Assist and Other Convenience Features
Thanks to Roland Printer Assist, you can manage your RT-640 remotely when you're in the office using an iPad tablet. Free and available for download from the iTunes App Store, the Roland Printer Assist app enables users to manage production, test printing, and even access cleaning functions from virtually any location.
You can instantly observe key operating parameters such as the amount of ink remaining and waste bottle status. Roland Printer Assist notifies you when consumable parts replacement should be performed to ensure printer reliability. The intuitive interface features clear control menus that are easy to navigate to keep things running smoothly. You can manage commonly used menu operations such as power on/off, test print and cleaning for maximum efficiency. Roland Printer Assist allows you to manage multiple printers from a single iPad.
Interactive documentation for processes such as manual cleanings and part replacement feature step by step diagrams that walk you through the procedure, making maintenance tasks a breeze and letting your operators make the most of their time.
